Google I/O Registration Opens March 8...Pick me!
Google I/O is the premiere Android related event when it comes to software and apps. The show always shows us a preview of the next version of Android, along with a host of new services and APIs we can expect. Developers flock to the conference every year to get a look at what's new in Android and to collaborate with one another and learn new skills. The event takes place this year May 18-20, with the keynote address delivered at the Shoreline Amphitheater.
Today Google went live with the Google I/O 2016 website and next week registration will open on March 8. As in past years you will need to enter a drawing to obtain the right to purchase a ticket. Registration will close on March 10 at 5 PM PST. It doesn't matter when you register during the open period, everyone has the same chance of being selected. Pricing is $900 for general admission or $300 for an academic ticket. This year Google is referring to the event as a "developer festival" which sounds like a lot of fun.
In past years I've tried to attend, but never quite had time due to my academic commitments at the university. This year I've arranged the time off from teaching and hope that I can secure a ticket to I/O 2016. If I don't get selected for a press ticket (which is likely) I'm hoping to attend in an academic capacity to save a bit of money. My PhD dissertation dealt with reconstructing 3D surfaces which is vital to graphic computation in 3D games. Perhaps I can tell a good story and get the university to pay for my trip in a research capacity! In any event, feel free to lobby Google to get me in so I can bring some awesome coverage here and on Youtube!
When the drawing is over I'll update this post with my result, fingers crossed for a win this year!
