HTC Claims the M10 will Feature "Compelling Camera"
It seems that the HTC One M10 information is going to roll in swiftly now that MWC is officially over. Yesterday HTC posted a vague teaser photo on Twitter showing off what appears to be the back of the M10. Today, CNET posted a rather long interview with CEO Cher Wang and CFO Chialin Chang where they discuss the M10 along with the importance of the Vive consumer release.
In the interview portion regarding the M10 Chang said, "HTC will have a very, very compelling camera experience." Of course, HTC has said this before, so we shall see. It is rumored that HTC will return to the use of UltraPixels in the M10, while using the Sony imaging sensor found in the Huawei Nexus 6P. In contrast to the Nexus 6P, we do expect that HTC will feature OIS on the camera of the M10. The device is expected to have a back that resembles the M7/M8 and a front similar to the A9, which looks similar to another phone I've seen before...but enough of that. What people really care about in the M10 is a true upgrade, especially in the camera area, which the M9 didn't deliver.
HTC has a chance to make a comeback this year, not only with the M10, but with the consumer release of their Vive VR headset. The Vive preorders are set for February 29 at a price of $799. HTC expects that Vive will be a big part of their company's strategy in 2016 and beyond. Perhaps the biggest drawback to the Vive is the high-end graphics card required in the connecting computer to run Vive. The article mentions that many retailers were willing to donate retail demo space to HTC because they think VR will draw in more customers to the store.
It seems to me that 2016 will be a make or break year for HTC. They need to deliver a solid smartphone experience with the M10 and have a good retail showing with Vive. Anyone out there believe HTC can finally give is a competitive camera?
